Happy Halloween!

We all enjoyed Quinn's first Halloween. He looked so cute in his fireman costume. It was in the mid-80's today so we didn't keep him in his costume very long. We went trick-or-treating to some of our neighbors then came back home to pass out candy.
Here's a link to the *many* Halloween pictures...

Rough week...
The week started off rough... Quinn came down with Croup (again) and was home sick on Monday and Tuesday. He had a nasty cough and some fussiness but handled things pretty well. Nothing seems to slow him down. He's still pulling up every chance he gets. Just last night, he used his walker and walked (on his tippy-toes) for about 10 feet!
Quinn seems to have a great sense of humor. He loves funny noises and faces and to be tickled. We showed him how to jump on the bed the other night and he thought that was the greatest thing. He laughed and giggled like crazy - he just couldn't get enough of it!
He's started making this new popping/clicking noise. It's very similar to one that my brother Jimmy makes (except not quite as loud - well, yet anyway...). It's funny to hear and watch his face when he makes it... Another thing he likes to do is clap his hands. I think he may have been doing it for awhile but it's been a big hit this week. He thinks it's pretty cool...
We've experimented with more 'real' foods. Just like Mommy, he appears to have a liking for the potato. We went to Red Lobster last weekend and he practically ate my whole baked potato - couldn't get it in his mouth fast enough! Unlike Mommy, he appears to love Mac n' Cheese too. He's also munched on some bananas, carrots, and animal crackers... Anytime someone is eating, he crawls over and stares you down. He wants to try everything!
Well I can't think of anything else right now...

Sick with croup... again
Took Quinn to the doctor today and he's sick with croup again. The symptoms started on Friday so the doctor thought he should be through the worst of it within 3 days. He's back on the Orapred though. I think he's competing with Yia-Yia to see who can take more steroids... not a good thing!
Anyway, he's doing great aside from a juicy, bark-like cough. He's still all over the place and full of giggles and smiles. At times he's a little more clingy then usual but I don't mind the extra cuddles at all!

New Professional Pictures...
One of Quinn's teachers, Ms. Jessica, works part-time at Target Photo Studio. So I took Quinn one Saturday when she was working. She got some great smiles out of him - the only trouble we had was getting him to stay put!
Some of them are really cute! I ordered a bunch but feel free to let me know which ones you want so I can make sure I ordered enough...
And if you want to go to Target and get your picture with Quinn, we're members of their Savings Club - what can I say, I'm a sucker. I go to Target to get some cheap pictures and end up spending a hundred dollars! :)

Quinn - a bouncer?
From the outside Quinn may be a mini-Jason but his behavior seems more like me...
I caught him bouncing the other day... He was sitting up against the playpen, bouncing against the mesh sides. Just sat there bouncing back against it for at least 5 minutes. Of course as soon as I had my camera ready to take a video clip, something else had caught his eye and he had crawled away. It was too funny though...
Some other ways...
- he loves to eat (enough said :)
- he loves salt
he'll lick the salt off saltine crackers (if they are salted ones...)
- he loves sour things
we fight over who's going to get to eat the pickle (of course he always wins :)
he'll suck on lemons too (all without making that puckery baby face...)
- he kicks his leg(s) when he's falling asleep
- he pinches (lol) - really hard actually!
- right now he even throws like me
I'm sure Jason will fix that once he's older, I'm helpless though!

Quinn's 8 months old!
Quinn's still a happy, adorable boy - here's what's new in his life...
Quinn's got a lot of new skills and loves showing them off! After weeks of rocking on his hands and knees, Quinn finally starting crawling. We thought he was going to stick with the flying/swimming technique forever! He officially started crawling on September 20th. I got an excited call from Ms. Queenie (his daycare teacher) telling me that he was crawling all around the room. We couldn't wait to see, so that night Jason and I did everything we could to encourage him to crawl. But he just did the same old thing - rocked a bit on his hands and knees, then fake a step or two with his hands, and then drop back down onto his belly to fly. So I though maybe that's what Ms. Queenie was talking about... Well the next morning when I dropped him off, I sent him on the floor and he took off crawling across the room to hang out with the other kids. What a brat - he could crawl! Typical Quinn though, it was on his terms only! So for a couple of days, he continued to crawl only when he saw fit... But by the weekend he was a baby in motion. He's always been a very curious kid so this new mobility allows him to check out absolutely everything! I think he's explored the whole house and has even discovered the tupperware cabinet. One of his favorite things to do is to crawl over to Lucia's water bowl and dump it. I think he's starting to understand the word 'no' though. As soon as he starts heading over there, I'll say "no, no, no, Quinn...". He'll turn and look at me, pause for a minute, then look back at the water bowl and continue on his journey! Of course I think he's so smart and cute, I just scoop him up and laugh!
After a couple of weeks of crawling, Quinn decided it was time for something new. Now his thing is pulling himself up and standing. He'll use absolutely anything to help pull himself up. As you can imagine, this has lead to a few bumps and bruises, but we try not to get too worked up about them. Usually, he just pulls himself back up and starts over again. Sometimes he'll even get on his hands and toes and seems inches away from standing on his own... Selfishly, my favorite, is when he crawls over to me and pulls himself up on my leg. Then he looks up at me with those adorable blue eyes - it just melts my heart!
So with all this new mobility, we wondered when he would "notice" the stairs. For weeks, he'd just cruise past them - not giving them a second glance. But just last weekend, he stopped and turned to check them out. Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought that was so cool! I think it's great that he's so curious and wants to try new things. He pulled himself up but didn't seem to know what to do next, so I showed him how to lift his knee onto the next step. He still has a little difficulty getting his knee up to the next step but once you help him, he can pull himself up by himself. So that means this weekend, we'll be shopping for baby gates :)
Quinn's got a lot of great toys and he definitely has his favorites but his most favorite is Lucia's orange rubber ball. He's like a speed daemon crawling after it. Lucia's been really good about it and will generally let him have it. Just recently, Quinn learned to throw the ball - well, throw it down with a bounce and then it rolls away. It's so cute though cause Lucia will retrieve the ball and bring it back to Quinn, then he'll "throw" it again... It keeps them entertained for a long time and it is so cute to watch them playing together.
Quinn's still a great eater. He has bottles throughout the day but eats cereal for breakfast and jars of veggies and fruit for lunch and dinner. He loves to snack on crackers, cheerios and fruit puffs. He's mastered the sippy cup and loves apple juice! We save the messy snacks like biter biscuits for bath night. Lucia's generally right by his side snatching up the leftovers but he doesn't seem to mind - sometimes he even seems to intentionally feed her!. Quinn can hold his own bottle now - but it's on his terms only. When he's tired and wanting some extra love, he likes us to hold it for him - not that we mind at all - it's one of the few times of the day he likes to be held and cuddled!
Quinn's still a curious, independent boy but I think he's started to get a little bit of separation anxiety. He's gotten a little more clingy in the fact that he likes to have someone he knows nearby. If you leave the room, he'll generally crawl after you. And when we put him in the crib for bed, he gets a little upset like he knows what's coming... He's also started waking up crying in the night a little bit more. I guess that's all part of growing up so we just try to comfort him and make sure that he knows that we'll always be there for him. He doesn't seem to be afraid or shy around strangers at all - which is nice.
Well I guess this is probably long enough for one entry - in case you couldn't tell, I could go all day long. Quinn is the light of my life and I treasure every minute with him!

Visit to Yia-Yia's in September
Quinn and Mommy had a lot of fun visiting Yia-Yia on September 24th for a long weekend.
The trip out was great despite a 30 minute delay. Quinn was able to have his own seat and kept everyone around us entertained with his giggles and squeals while we waited to take off. Once we were up in the air he fell asleep and slept the entire flight. Yia-Yia and Jimmy were waiting for us once we landed. We got the car all packed up and headed over to see Chris' new place in the city. We were impressed, he's got a great place (especially compared to the fixer-upper Quinn and I saw when he was still shopping :) and has done a great job decorating. When we finally got to Yia-Yia's there were toys waiting for Quinn and some of my favorite Greek foods (thanks Thia-Roy!).
The next day we did some shopping (Yia-Yia never misses an opportunity to spoil Quinn!) and then went up to Maryann's in the afternoon. We had a great afternoon hanging out with Yia-Yia, Jimmy, Maryann, Margaret, (little) Jimmy, Christina, and Johnny. Margaret took Quinn for his first ride down the slide - it looked like fun but he got a little scared and started crying. And (little) Jimmy setup the baby swing for Quinn which he really enjoyed. Later, Chris, Maria, Penelope, Katie, Jane, and Lewis joined us for dinner. Unfortunately Christopher wasn't feeling well and couldn't come - we really missed not seeing him! After dinner Fotini and Mark got home from the Iowa game. Even though she was exhausted from the trip, Fotini found Quinn and cuddled up with him for the rest of the night. It's so great seeing the kids I love and have watched grow-up show give so much love and attention to my son.
On Sunday we slept in then did some more shopping (this time I got spoiled too!). We had an early dinner before Jimmy had to go back down to U of I. After dinner we headed back into Chicago to visit Katie's new place. Wow - it's awesome. It's a beautiful old building that's been restored. It has the original crown molding and the rooms are painted really cool colors. Quinn even decided to give it a christening (and Katie didn't even get mad)!
The pictures from our trip have been uploaded into Quinn's photo album: http://quinnpeterson.com/gallery/YiaYia9-24to9-27
I thought we took some pictures at Chris' place - maybe they're on his or Jimmy's camera? If so, can one of you upload them? Thanks!
