Quinn's 8 months old!

Quinn's still a happy, adorable boy - here's what's new in his life...

Quinn's got a lot of new skills and loves showing them off! After weeks of rocking on his hands and knees, Quinn finally starting crawling. We thought he was going to stick with the flying/swimming technique forever! He officially started crawling on September 20th. I got an excited call from Ms. Queenie (his daycare teacher) telling me that he was crawling all around the room. We couldn't wait to see, so that night Jason and I did everything we could to encourage him to crawl. But he just did the same old thing - rocked a bit on his hands and knees, then fake a step or two with his hands, and then drop back down onto his belly to fly. So I though maybe that's what Ms. Queenie was talking about... Well the next morning when I dropped him off, I sent him on the floor and he took off crawling across the room to hang out with the other kids. What a brat - he could crawl! Typical Quinn though, it was on his terms only! So for a couple of days, he continued to crawl only when he saw fit... But by the weekend he was a baby in motion. He's always been a very curious kid so this new mobility allows him to check out absolutely everything! I think he's explored the whole house and has even discovered the tupperware cabinet. One of his favorite things to do is to crawl over to Lucia's water bowl and dump it. I think he's starting to understand the word 'no' though. As soon as he starts heading over there, I'll say "no, no, no, Quinn...". He'll turn and look at me, pause for a minute, then look back at the water bowl and continue on his journey! Of course I think he's so smart and cute, I just scoop him up and laugh!

After a couple of weeks of crawling, Quinn decided it was time for something new. Now his thing is pulling himself up and standing. He'll use absolutely anything to help pull himself up. As you can imagine, this has lead to a few bumps and bruises, but we try not to get too worked up about them. Usually, he just pulls himself back up and starts over again. Sometimes he'll even get on his hands and toes and seems inches away from standing on his own... Selfishly, my favorite, is when he crawls over to me and pulls himself up on my leg. Then he looks up at me with those adorable blue eyes - it just melts my heart!

So with all this new mobility, we wondered when he would "notice" the stairs. For weeks, he'd just cruise past them - not giving them a second glance. But just last weekend, he stopped and turned to check them out. Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought that was so cool! I think it's great that he's so curious and wants to try new things. He pulled himself up but didn't seem to know what to do next, so I showed him how to lift his knee onto the next step. He still has a little difficulty getting his knee up to the next step but once you help him, he can pull himself up by himself. So that means this weekend, we'll be shopping for baby gates :)

Quinn's got a lot of great toys and he definitely has his favorites but his most favorite is Lucia's orange rubber ball. He's like a speed daemon crawling after it. Lucia's been really good about it and will generally let him have it. Just recently, Quinn learned to throw the ball - well, throw it down with a bounce and then it rolls away. It's so cute though cause Lucia will retrieve the ball and bring it back to Quinn, then he'll "throw" it again... It keeps them entertained for a long time and it is so cute to watch them playing together.

Quinn's still a great eater. He has bottles throughout the day but eats cereal for breakfast and jars of veggies and fruit for lunch and dinner. He loves to snack on crackers, cheerios and fruit puffs. He's mastered the sippy cup and loves apple juice! We save the messy snacks like biter biscuits for bath night. Lucia's generally right by his side snatching up the leftovers but he doesn't seem to mind - sometimes he even seems to intentionally feed her!. Quinn can hold his own bottle now - but it's on his terms only. When he's tired and wanting some extra love, he likes us to hold it for him - not that we mind at all - it's one of the few times of the day he likes to be held and cuddled!

Quinn's still a curious, independent boy but I think he's started to get a little bit of separation anxiety. He's gotten a little more clingy in the fact that he likes to have someone he knows nearby. If you leave the room, he'll generally crawl after you. And when we put him in the crib for bed, he gets a little upset like he knows what's coming... He's also started waking up crying in the night a little bit more. I guess that's all part of growing up so we just try to comfort him and make sure that he knows that we'll always be there for him. He doesn't seem to be afraid or shy around strangers at all - which is nice.

Well I guess this is probably long enough for one entry - in case you couldn't tell, I could go all day long. Quinn is the light of my life and I treasure every minute with him!
