Is my finger still there?

Quinn hurt his pinky fingernail at school a couple weeks ago. The nail bled and it looked nasty and painful for a couple of days so we kept it wrapped up. Quinn was really anxious about it and baby'd his hand. Every night we forced him to switch out the bandaid but he would get so upset that we couldn't really get a good look and he would never let us touch it. After a couple of days the nail turned white and was barely attached, but he wouldn't let us clip it. One night while I was changing the bandaid he had his eyes winced closed and he asked in an anxious voice "Is it still there? Is my finger still on?" It was then that I realized what had him so anxious. Every night when Jason and I examined his finger and made general comments like "You think it's going to fall off?" or "Has it fallen off yet" or "Should we just go ahead and cut it off", we knew what we were referring to... his fingernail. However, it quickly became apparent that Quinn thought all those conversations were about his actual finger! He was sure his finger was about to fall off! Hopefully we have cleared up the misunderstanding but it looks like he's going to have a bandaid on that finger and baby the hand until the nail grows in. And if you've ever brought out the band-aids for a 3-year old you know where this is going... After the finger is gently patched up, Quinn points out all of the "other" boo-boos he has. I think he is presently showing off 6 band-aids :-) Oh yeah, one more thing... he apparently inherited my inability to make a decision. So the fact that we are presently offering 4 different types of bandaids makes the nightly doctoring even more fun... Just as you think he's decided which band-aid his specific (yet often invisible) injury needs, he gets you with a "Um... I don't want an Elmo bandaid, I want one with animals on it...". No doubt, he's a chip off the old block :-)
