Is it still a bad word if you say it wrong?
Quinn likes to travel with a lot of items (toys and other random collections). In addition to his standard stash, he had a couple of extra items yesterday afternoon - Scott had left him and Allison goody bags from his birthday party over the weekend (we missed it because we were in Chicago). Last night as he was getting out of the van, I pointed out that he had forgotten to grab everything... Exasperated he mumbled "Oh, Damn-it!"... or so I thought I heard... So here's how the conversation proceeded:
Terri (in a calm, non-alarming voice): "what did you say?"
Quinn: ""Oh Damage"
Terri: "What does that mean?"
Quinn: "I don't know, my brain just told me to say it..."
I followed up with a low key lecture how he can't just repeat what grown-ups say and that what he said wasn't nice and that he shouldn't say it anymore.
I fully suspect it's something he overheard over the weekend (some of our relatives aren't quite used to having a little one around all the time. I'm not finger pointing but I observed multiple offenders through the weekend...
