Beach wins
A new game around our house is "Which do you like better?". Thought I would share this one:
Which do you like better, Mickey's house (aka Disney World) or Chicago?
Allison: "Chicago!"
Which do you like better, Beach or Mickey's house?
Allison: "Beach!"
Which do you like better, Chicago or Beach?
Allison: "Beach!"
Oh, are you a beach girl?
Allison: "Allison beach GIRL!"

where'd they go?
Maybe it's the age but Allison has this weird expectation that people remain where she's used to seeing them.
1) She seems to think that Caleb (her cousin) lives at the beach. We last visited with him in Virginia Beach and she was looking for him at Cape Lookout (our Labor Day beach trip). She didn't ask too much about him on the way to Myrtle Beach this weekend but it was the first thing she inquired when we walked into the hotel room "Ooh-lob?!?". Then again when we got to the pool... then again when we got to the beach...
2) Allison made several friends this trip at a couple of the resort pools. Every time we returned to a pool with a previous friend, Allison would look around and say "Girl? Girl? Girl?...)
3) I took Allison over to the ride area at Broadway at the Beach. Being off season it was fairly desolate but on occasion one or two kids would be on the rides with her. When we returned to repeat rides, she expected the same people to be on there waiting for her to ride it again with them... "Girl?... Girl go?... GIRL, Allison ride!"
LOL

elderly care
Quinn: "I'm going to be famous when I grow up."
Me: "That's good. Will you take care of your mom and dad then?"
Quinn: [pause] "Sure. I'll pay the hospital so they can keep you alive."

thank you for lunch
I thought about whether or not I should share this but then I figured this blog has become Quinn's baby book... so here it is...
Before Quinn's conference I joined Quinn and his class for lunch in the cafeteria. Apparently the first 10 minutes is "quiet lunch" but the two of us were allowed to talk. He pointed out the kids in his class by name so I could get to know them and then we had a nice chat about his day so far (they planted seeds earlier that morning). All of a sudden quiet time was over and while his table remained very well behaved the boy on the other side of me became a chatter box... about all things digimon(?). There is no way to graciously bow out of a conversation with an enthusiastic 6 year old - they just don't get it. So I did my best to half listen and still give Quinn some of my attention. It was during this time that I caught Quinn looking up at me with a smile on his face when he simply said "You're so pretty.". Of course it melted my heart. I knew his comment wasn't really about how I looked that day (although I did put on makeup and was out of my "comfy clothes"), but instead the perfect thank you. I know how much it means to him to have me visit his class or to have join him for lunch. I also know that the years will come quickly when he won't want anything to do with me out in public and will insist on maintaining a separate world exclusive of me. Regardless I relish these moments with my sweet and tender Quinn-y.
